“There are a lot of fun movies and dramas led by women these days, and I want to be loved for that.”
When asked about her goals as an actor, Jeon Jong-seo replied: Starring Jeon Jong-seo, the Netflix movie “Ballerina” is a beautiful and ruthless emotional action revenge drama that follows former bodyguard Ok-joo (Jeon Jong-seo) as she pursues Choi Pro (Kim Ji-hoon), who caused the death of her dear friend Min-hee (Park Yoo-rim). It was released on the 6th, and even though it has been two weeks, it has become so popular that it has become so popular that it has been ranked No. 2 in the Netflix Global Top 10 Movies (Non-English) category. It was ranked in the top 1 in 89 countries, including South Korea, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Taiwan.
Jeon Jong-seo played Ok-joo, who chose revenge for his friend. Jeon Jong-seo said, “Ok-ju doesn’t live in a variety of relationships but has a special relationship with just one person. I thought it was a character that breathed through that relationship, and I felt like I could take it dramatically.” He said that he had always been interested in revenge dramas, “I wanted to do a work that had a clear target to protect,” and “I naturally ended up doing ‘Ballerina.'”
“We dealt with good and evil, but there were parts of it that we took differently from traditional action revenge dramas. If my previous acting was similar to Min-hee’s role, I think this time I got a role that made Min-hee stand out even more.”
In “Ballerina,” you can see Jeon Jong-seo’s intense action. Jeon Jong-seo said that he wanted Ok-joo’s emotions to be conveyed well in the action and that he wanted to show “why Ok-ju takes revenge” and “what kind of emotions he takes revenge with.”
“There are a lot of one-on-one scenes with a lot of guys. I thought there would be some things that could not be covered by the action exercises, so I tried to bring a lot of emotion into it. I wanted you to feel sorry for me because I threw myself all at it and fought. I tried to be flexible and agile and express it with my eyes.”
There is also a reaction among some viewers that they felt a subtle homosexual code between Min-hee and Ok-joo. “I didn’t act out thinking it was homosexuality,” Jeon Jong-seo said, but she honestly said, “I think it’s difficult to describe the relationship between the two in one word: female friendship.”
“I subtly put the points where loyalty is like friendship and friendship is like love. We didn’t avoid homosexuality or restrict it. As with all movies, there are parts that have been edited. If the audience has a question mark as to why Ok-joo is doing so much (to save Min-hee), I think that’s something I haven’t been able to convince.”
Jeon Jong-seo has been in an open relationship with director Lee Chung-hyun, who directed “Ballerina,” since December 2021. Jeon Jong-seo said of the director, “He is a director who can make things happen that have never been tried.” “Even if I don’t have that kind of relationship with the director, I think there’s an advantage to being in his work as an actor,” he said.
“I would have been concerned that the private part of the film would affect the film, but I didn’t do that; I just shot the film. (Laughs) Originally, I talked to the director a lot before filming, and then I went to the scene. The crew was all the same age, so I was able to shoot with youthful energy. The atmosphere was so good, and it was a good scene.”
‘The Call’, ‘The House of Paper’, ‘Ransom’, and ‘Ballerina’. Jeon Jong-seo has been frequently seen in genre films. In response to this, Jeon Jong-seo confessed, “Looking back, there were moments when I could have made a different choice,” but “I wanted to show a little more acting ambition rather than a work that looked pretty and cute.”
“I was actually embarrassed about romance. I thought it was a private area, so I thought, ‘Isn’t that a bit of an act?’ But I recently filmed the romantic drama “Wedding Impossible,” and it was so much fun. I’m going to try a lot of drama in the future.”
