The first trial of singers Nam Tae-hyun and Seo Min-jae will be held.
On the morning of the 19th, the first trial date for Nam Tae-hyun and Seo Min-jae on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act will be held at Criminal Division 7 of the Seoul Western District Court.
Nam Tae-hyun and Seo Min-jae are accused of dosing meth together at Seo Min-jae’s home in Seoul’s Yongsan-gu in August last year. At that time, Seo Min-jae posted revelations such as “Nam Tae-hyun meth box” and “I have a syringe in my room or company cabinet” on his social media, and the police arrested the two people due to reports from users.
Seoul’s Yongsan Police Station applied for an arrest warrant for the two men in May, but it was rejected by the court. Then, in August, the Criminal Division 5 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutor’s Office (chief prosecutor Kim Chang-so) announced that it had indicted Nam Tae-hyun and Seo Min-jae without detention.
At the time, the prosecution explained, “The two confessed to all the charges of buying and dosing meth on social media,” adding, “Nam Tae-hyun entered a rehabilitation facility on his own and appeared on TV to promote the dangers of drugs, and Seo Min-jae was a first-time offender and actively cooperated with the investigation, so he was handed over to trial without detention.”
Meanwhile, Nam Tae-hyun launched a YouTube channel at the end of August to announce his recent admission to a drug addiction rehabilitation centre. On the 8th, he appeared as a reference person for the National Audit of the Health and Welfare Committee held at the National Assembly and urged the government’s support, saying, “Drug addiction cannot be solved alone.”
