Co-ed groups have never been commonplace in the K-pop industry, and it is quite likely that this will not change in the foreseeable future for a variety of reasons. Because of this, the accomplishments of the mixed-gender band KARD at DSP Media are even more remarkable and deserving of our praise. Domestically in South Korea, the band has never really created the biggest splash, but on the international stage, particularly in Latin American countries, they are a fairly awesome force to be reckoned with. KARD made their debut with the song “Hola Hola” on the EP of the same name on July 19, 2017; however, they began garnering notice much earlier with the release of their first predebut single, “Oh NaNa” (with Youngji), on December 13, 2016. If you are curious about the ages of the members of KARD at the present time, the following table provides BM, Somin, Jiwoo, and J. Seph’s ages as well as the dates of their respective birthdays.
Age and Birthdays: The KARD Members
J. Seph was born on June 21st, 1992, which makes him 31 years old today.
BM was born on October 20th, 1992, which makes her 31 years old today.
Somin was born on August 22, 1996, making her 27 years old at this point.
Jiwoo was born on October 4, 1996, making her age 27 as of right now.
With this in mind, if we want to take a look at how old the members were back in December of 2016, when they recorded the pre-debut song “Oh NaNa,” their ages were as follows: Jiwoo was 20, Somin was 20, and J. Seph was 24 when they were all together. Due to the fact that the entertainment industry normally tries to debut idols at an age that is as young as feasible, it is fairly uncommon for idols to debut at the age of 24 or older. It demonstrates how much faith DSP has in J.seph and BM, though, and given that J.seph finished his mandatory military duty in April 2022, there is no longer anything standing in the way of future promotions for either of them. (Because BM is an American by nationality, he is exempt from military service.)
In the meantime, Jiwoo is the maknae (literally “youngest person in the group”), but she and Somin are quite close in age. However, prior to making his debut at KARD, Somin had actually already made two other debuts at DSP. She began her career by participating in a group named Puretty, which only played in Japan. The group made its debut in September 2012, when she was 16 years old, and it formally split in May 2014. The next month, in August 2015, she made her debut with the K-pop group April, just a few months after becoming 19 years old. However, Somin parted ways with that group not long after that, in November of 2015, citing the need to devote more of her time to her academic pursuits. She had also been a competitor in the KARA Project in the time between Puretty and April. (BM himself had appeared in the music video for the late Goo Hara’s song “Choco Chip Cookies” in July of 2015, in addition to rapping on her song “La La La.”)
That is all the information you require regarding the ages of the members of KARD, including both their present age and their birthdays. They are one of the older actively active groups overall, especially when contrasted to fresh-faced fourth-generation K-pop groups like NewJeans and IVE; nonetheless, KARD has the ardent audience to easily support it.
