What is Kpop Photocard?

This tutorial will cover all you need to know to understand kpop photocard collecting, from where the photocards come from and how much they are worth to how to properly store and safeguard your collection of photocards.

When did it first begin?

With the release of their album “Oh!” in 2010, Girl’s Generation was the first group in any Korean release to include photocards in the package. In 2007, TVXQ released photocards in conjunction with their Japanese album.

At the moment, there are a great number of photocards, and businesses are making significant efforts to market them to fans who are in need of new collectibles. In this day and age, it is exceedingly unusual to come across any groups that do not make use of photocards.

How to Get Started with a Collection of K-Pop Photocards

It is essential to have a strategy in place before diving headfirst into the habit of collecting K-pop photocards.

Invest some of your time in conducting studies to determine which members or groups you want to collect, what type of photocards you want, and how much money you are willing to spend on your collection.

You may find out which photocards have been issued by conducting a search for “group name” photocard templates. Album photocards and POB’s or store exclusive photocards are the only kinds of photocards that are often included in their sets; however, occasionally they will also include other types of photocards.

Kpop Photocard Size

55 mm x 85 mm (2.2 in x 3.5 in) is the standard size for a K-pop photocard. Other trading cards, such as Pokemon, MTG, and sports cards, typically measure 63 mm by 88 mm. The K-pop photocard, on the other hand, is significantly smaller.

Photocards from the album

These are the photocards that you will see the most frequently, and it is highly likely that you will find them to be the cheapest ones whenever you go to shop for them.

Depending on the album, a typical K-pop album will include anything from one to several photocards inside of it. The average number of photocards included in an album is one or two, while some artists, like Twice, include anywhere from three to five photocards in each album. Photocards that are from albums that are no longer being produced typically sell for a greater price than photocards that are from albums that are still being produced.

Price: $8–12 USD / The number of photos in the book (two photocards in one album would cost $4–$6 USD)

Photocards that are broadcast

When a band is trying to promote themselves, they will hand out these photocards to participants who attend any music concerts. Fans have the opportunity to attend musical performances such as Mcountdown, and if they are admitted, they will receive a televised photocard. There is a cap on the number of participants who can see a single show, and attendance is often assigned in the order of arrival.

Because you have to physically go to music performances within a certain amount of time, you can only get one set of photocards out of each promotion. These photocards are much harder to come by than standard photocards.

Price: $50 and above (This is dependent on how popular the group is.)

Photocards that are Unique to Pob’s and the Store

You can obtain photocards known as Pob’s, which stand for “pre-order benefits,” as well as shop exclusive photocards when you buy albums from a particular retailer within a specific time period.

You may learn more about POB as well as photocards that are only available in stores by reading the post that I titled “What are Kpop POB?”

These are the K-pop retailers around the world that are most likely to sell Pob’s or store-exclusive photocards.
Makestar, MyMusicTaste, Ktown4u, and Withdrama are the following:

Price: $10–15 for a single card when purchasing an album (two cards for one album equal $5–$8)

Photocards Generated Based on Events

These are photocards that you could receive or purchase when visiting any events such as concerts, pop-up stores, or merchandise, and it is not necessary for you to purchase any albums in order to do so.

It may be photocard sets that are given away when purchasing goods for 10 US dollars, or it could be 100 limited photocard sets that are only available during a performance. As a result, the price truly depends on what kind of event it is and how easily accessible it is.

Price range: $2 to $500

Polarized images

Although Polaroid photographs are not precisely the same as photocards, I would say that they fall into a similar category. Polaroids are frequently distributed to fans as prizes at events and other types of promotions. Polaroids have been a traditional prize for fan-sign video call winners in recent years. The polaroids have the option of being signed, left unsigned, or adorned with stickers.

Not every Polaroid is an original photograph.

Price range: $50–$500

Where may one purchase photocards?

Since you presumably already know the photocards you want, the next question is where you can buy them. Online marketplaces such as eBay, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, amongst others, are used for virtually all buying and selling transactions nowadays.

Buying photocards online: some helpful hints

Because of the costs, the price of photocards on eBay is typically greater than it is at other retail locations; nonetheless, eBay is the most secure location for purchasers.
When using PayPal, you should avoid making payments using the Friends and Family option. When you pay through F&F, you give up all of your rights as a buyer, and it is extremely difficult to get your money back.
Always search for or inquire about proof of previous sales. Proofs are typically included in the highlights section of an Instagram seller’s profile.

Putting Away Your Picture Cards

The majority of people in the community enjoy going through their photocard collections, and most of them store them in binders for easy access. Your photocards are not going to be as safe when they are stored in this manner, but it does its job enough.

Security measures for each unique card:

Photocards can be kept scratch-free by placing them in clear plastic sleeves, known as sleeves. Sleeves are available in a variety of sizes. There is a wide variety of sleeves available, and the one you select will largely depend on your own preference. Sleeves that range from thin to thick. front sleeves with a holographic pattern and colored back sleeves.
Toploaders: A toploader is a single card sleeve that is built out of thicker plastic than a standard card sleeve. The kpop photocard community does not truly use them for storing photocards; rather, they are used for the purpose of providing protection when selling photocards. After being sleeved, photo cards are then loaded into a toploader.
One-Touch cases: These cases will shield your photocards from practically any damage that may befall them. The photocards may be inserted and removed from the cases with ease, and they offer protection from ultraviolet light. These are designed to hold Polaroids as well as expensive photocards. It is recommended that autographed polaroids be placed on sleeves due to the possibility that the signature will adhere to the front of the photograph.

How to Protect Polaroids and Valuable Photocards; How to Protect Kpop Photocards; My Kpop Supplies are some of the posts that provide guidance on how to properly store your collection of photocards.

However, the truth of the matter is that there is no correct or incorrect way to store your collection of K-pop photocards; however, it is crucial to protect your photocards if you want to ensure that they do not become damaged or lose any value.

Have fun with your collections!

K-pop Collecting, like any other hobby, should first and foremost be enjoyable. Everyone has their own speed when it comes to collecting, and you shouldn’t feel pressured to collect at someone else’s level simply because they have a larger collection than you do. The community is filled with a large number of wonderful people. Because of this interest, I have connected with so many new individuals and made so many new friends, and they come from all over the world.

Before inserting them into the top loaders, make sure to put the cards in sleeves. The hard plastic might cause scratches on your PCs, and many top loaders are made of PVC, including some high-end brands unlike sleeves.

I hope that you experience success and that you are enjoying the hunt!
